About Cambridge ExaminationsCambridge Examinations in Sydney is the Authorised Centre to administer the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations in Australia. Clare McDowell has been the Local Secretary for Australia since 1988 and has overall responsibility for the delivery of the tests in Australia. Over that time the candidature has grown substantially and today there are eight centres around Australia where candidates can sit a Cambridge Examination. The Cambridge Examinations office is situated in the Sydney suburb of Balmain and all enrolment and administration for the exams in each centre goes through this office. In addition to Clare McDowell, Janet Gourlay works in the Cambridge Examinations Office and is responsible for customer liaison, examination administration and venue sourcing. Suzy Shortridge also works with Janet and Clare and assists with timetabling, liaison with examiners and supervisors, customer liaison and special projects as they arise. Glenys Denton has recently joined the team, and is available to help with any enquiries relating to Accounts. There is also an extensive network of professionals across Australia who assist in the delivery of the examinations. The Senior Team Leader, Jan Smith, is based in Sydney but looks after the Oral Examiner Team Leaders in each centre around Australia who in turn oversee the training and standardisation of all the Oral Examiners in each centre. Every year the Team Leaders meet at our Sydney office for an up-to-date briefing, ensuring the consistent and reliable administration of the speaking component of the tests. The Cambridge Examinations Office also organises seminars and information sessions regarding revisions to the examinations and other relevant information in the Cambridge ESOL world.
